Laura is a prolific writer and has written over 50 songs and poems that can be found peppered throughout the albums the Duo has released over the years. Laura was raised in Virginia. She met her husband and partner Tim at a restaurant in Virginia where they were both working. His earlier folk career became the perfect backdrop to launch The Battersby Duo. "It was love at first sight and a year-and-a-half later we were married," Tim said. Their achievements include a 2010 Grammy® nomination,  a 1993 Cable Ace Award, and five nominations between 1989 and '91 for their work on the cable television show Kid's Place. Tim Battersby

Tim comes from London and has a background in English literature. The Battersby Duo first auditioned for the Wayside Theatre where they joined a troupe that put on shows for children in Virginia. 3 years later they decided to strike out on their own and within a few years, were performing in Elementary schools all across the USA. As time passed Tim and Laura began to write more and more songs for young children, embracing the very tenets of childhood development. Love, nature, counting, food, animals, and reading became the main themes of many BatDuo songs. Coupled with Tim's quick wit and Lauras' more sensible approach to life, Sesame Street described them as "Monty Python meets Mary Poppins. The Battersby Duo is a top-notch duo." a moniker that has stuck with them for their whole career. In 2010 they produced a children's album called Sunny Days that was submitted to Grammy. Three months later Tim and Laura became proud recipients of a Grammy nomination.
